The advert I am analysing is Paco Rabanne, the model is standing in a very unique position and he is very confident this shows a lot of masculinity. The background is very simple because it makes the model as well as the perfume stand out it shows as it lot of simplicity. There is not many mise-en-scenes which also highlights the simplicity. The facial expression of the model is very demanding and he is also clicking his fingers which connotates he is in control. By the click of his fingers anything you desire could happen so by using the perfume your dreams could come true. All aspects of the advert are in black and white colouring except the actual perfume bottle. This attracts the viewer’s attention on the product and makes it stand out which connotates that if you use this perfume, you too will stand out from the crowd. The gold colours also connotates wealth n luxurious lifestyles. The perfume is called ‘1 Million’. The word million makes it sound wealthy n up to a high standard. This connotates that the consumer will be up to a high standard if they use the product. The number ‘1’ is used because it makes the product seems as its just for you and its unique. The number ‘1’ also encourages your actions. The denotation is that he is wearing a suit which signifies that he is rich. The font used is a classic simple font in gold lettering which connotates that he is a classic man with a superior wealthy life. The camera angle is a body shot, this particular angle is used because the models body language has relevance to the connotations of the advert. This angle allows us to clearer see the body language as well as the facial expressions.

In the second advert you can subtly see a chandelier which connotates the luxurious lifestyle however the chandelier is not at sight which gives it a sense of suspense and makes the viewer feel they know something we don’t. They may want to investigate further and buy the product. The dark colours connote that maybe this is the new way of being part of a more elite group. It also highlights the bottle more as it sets a wider contrast. This connotates the individuality of the perfume and its uniqueness. The dress worn by the model is glamorous and revealing which may appeal to women who have both work and play in life. The revealing of the chest connotates the sex appeal and maturity. The model is almost closing her body posture in with her hands out gesturing that she is calling for something. This connotates that she is hiding something and wants you to come and explore the perfume (by buying it). The perfume is called ‘Lady Million’ which clearly connotates wealth. Using the word ‘Lady’ highlights the gender. The word ‘Lady’ also sounds classy and mature. Using the word ‘Girl’ wouldn’t have this effect. The camera shot is a body shot so we can see the body language n facial expressions clearly as it plays a role in the advert.
This video advert is very effective as it definitely reaches to the exact audience that my ‘1Million’ perfume appeals to. Outgoing adventurous men that are ready to be themselves is who they are and look forward to the greater adventures in life. You can see from the last screen shot that this audience type should be free minded and would rise to any challenge as they put their hands up in the air like they have accomplished something hence they should be up for action and adventure. The model part of the advert also suggests that this person in a click of his fingers he can accomplish anything he wishes to desire, the model is a confident to stand out from the rest.
This advert uses the following techniques, snob appeal and testimonial. Snob appeal is used because using the perfume makes you fit in to an elite group with a luxurious and glamorous lifestyle, you can see this has been used because of the colour code and the clothes that the model is wearing. According to Maslow’s Hierarchy, the Paco Robanne audience are aspirers. They long to aim/seek success and are ambitious. Men and Women are portrayed positively in this advert as they’re seen to want to succeed in society and be different.
